"Harlaxton must be seen to be believed and even when one has seen it, it is not always easy to believe" Mark Girouard - The Victorian Country House.
Harlaxton Manor showcases Ancaster limestone in its grandest form. Designed by Victorian architect Anthony Salvin it was built between 1837 and 1855. Salvin used Gothic, Jacobean and Baroque styles to create his masterpiece. Harlaxton is currently the British campus for the University of Evansville USA. As you would expect on a building of such scale there is ongoing renovation work all of which uses Ancaster Hard White from Glebe quarry.
Harlaxton Manor has been the setting for several movies notably in the Haunting, starring Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones, where it was the haunted Hill House.
